Ukraine’s Energomashspetsstal (EMSS), a subsidiary of Rosatom’s engineering division Atomenergomash, on 31 May signed a new contract for the supply of billets for the Akkuyu NPP under construction in Turkey. Currently at EMSS, blanks of parts for key equipment for Akkuyu units 3&4 are at different stages of production.

In April, the company signed a new contract for the supply of blanks for unit 4. Under the contract, EMSS will manufacture and supply to various products for the main circulation pump (MCP), the total weight of which will be 285 tons. Delivery of the blanks is scheduled for the fourth quarter of 2021.

In addition to the blanks for the MCP, EMSS already has a contract signed last year for the supply of blanks for other key equipment for unit 4. This provides for the manufacture and supply of 75 blanks for the steam generator, collector, bottom and MCP with a total weight of 1200 tons.

EMSS has been supplying blanks Akkuyu NPP since 2016. During this time, the company has manufactured and shipped 4,763 tons of products for the key equipment of units 1&2. The enterprise has manufactured hundreds of blanks for the reactor vessel, steam generators, pressure compensator, main circulation pumping unit, main circulation pipeline and other equipment of the nuclear island. Inspectors from Turkey’s Nuclear Regulatory Agency undertake regular supervisory audits of the enterprise as well as acceptance inspections of manufactured products together with the customer, Akkuyu Nuclear.

The Akkuyu NPP construction project is being implemented by Akkuyu Nuclear following an intergovernmental agreement signed between Russian and Turkey in 2010. The Akkuyu NPP, with four VVER-1200 units, is being constructed on a build-own-operate basis by Rosatom, with commissioning of the first unit planned for 2023.
