More corrosion

28 February 2001

Another case of pitting corrosion was detected in 200l barrels with low level radioactive waste at Brokdorf. The barrels had just been prepared for transport to the interim store for low level waste at Gorleben when defects were found at 4 out of 30 stainless steel barrels. There was no danger at all to the public or staff at the plant, but the situation was disappointing as the barrels had been filled in 1997 under a procedure which was released by the Federal Office for Radiation Protection.
