12 April 2011

Mitsubishi Power Systems Americas, Inc. (MPSA) has won a multi-million dollar contract to replace the electric generator at Constellation Energy Nuclear Group’s (CENG’s) Ginna Nuclear Power Plant in Ontario, New York.

Mitsubishi will install a new electrical generator and excitation system including related auxiliaries during a planned refuelling and maintenance outage in 2014. The work forms part of the R.E. Ginna generator replacement project valued at approximately $50 million.

The Power Generation Services division of MPSA, based in Orlando, Florida will have main responsibility for the Ginna upgrade project. Mitsubishi has other major production facilities in Savannah, GA, and Fort Smith, AR, and has recently invested more than $500 million in new capacity to manufacture, service and repair gas, steam and wind turbines, generators and other major power generation equipment in the USA.

President and CEO of CENG Brew Barron said: "We are looking forward to partnering with Mitsubishi on this important efficiency project for CENG and our Ginna facility. This work will enable Ginna to continue producing electricity safely, efficiently and reliably for its customers."

Ginna is currently licensed to operate until 2029.
