Milestone completed at Yankee Rowe

30 August 2001

NAC International has completed placement of concrete for the 16th and final vertical concrete cask (VCC) at the Yankee Rowe dry cask storage project. In November 1996, NAC entered into an agreement with Yankee Atomic Electric Company to design, license and fabricate a transportable dry spent nuclear fuel storage system for the station, which requires 16 VCCs to place all spent nuclear fuel and greater-than-class C waste at the site into dry storage. After a three-year licensing process, Hi-Tech Manufacturing of North Carolina was selected to fabricate the carbon steel liners. Other companies involved in the project include Cianbro Corporation, Dailey concrete, Duke Engineering and Advanced Testing Services.
