Mihama reactor can begin operations

7 December 2005

Kansai Electric Power’s Mihama nuclear plant in Fukui prefecture can begin operations with the news that Japan's Nuclear and Industrial Safety Agency has lifted a ban on operation of unit 3, the site of a fatal steam accident in August 2004.

Kansai Electric has replaced pipework to a sufficient standard, said the agency, leading it to lift the ban on the plant, located about 320km west of Tokyo.
