Meserve made NRC chairman

President Clinton has sworn in Richard Meserve as the new chairman of the Nuclear Regulatory Commission. Meserve was nominated to the NRC last August. He takes over from Greta Dicus, who has served as interim chairman following the departure of Shirley Ann Jackson last June.

A lawyer by profession, Meserve has specialised in nuclear licencing and environmental litigation.
