Magnox looks for launderers

20 September 2012

The nuclear estate, owned by the UK’s Nuclear Decommissioning Authority (NDA) is exploring options and seeking help and support from the supply chains to provide laundry services. This will include cleaning both contaminated and non-contaminated clothing and personal protective Equipment (PPE) such as hard hats, gloves and eyewear.

Currently the Site Licence Companies (SLCs) that operate 19 nuclear sites on behalf of the NDA use both ‘in house’ and subcontract arrangements to launder and clean over 5 million items each year. In addition, it has been identified that the arrangements could be expanded to include cleaning and decontamination of items such as respirators, scaffolding and other metal items.

Companies, who think they may be able to provide such a service to the nuclear industry, should contact Steve Watson (steve.x.watson@magnoxsites.com) at Magnox, who are leading the initiative on behalf of the NDA.
