11 May 2004

The US Nuclear Regulatory Commission has extended the operating licences of two more reactors last month. The licences for South Carolina Electric & Gas’ V C Summer unit 1 and Carolina Power & Light’s H B Robinson unit 2 have been extended for another 20 years. The renewals extend Summer’s licence to 6 August 2042 and Robinson’s to 31 July 2030. With these two recent renewals, 25 US nuclear units have received 20-year licence extensions to date.
