Long-lived incore instrumentation to be tested in Korea

6 January 2015

Nuclear instrumentation specialist, Thermocoax, has been awarded a contract to supply long-lived in-core instrumentation assemblies for a demonstration project in Korea.

Under the contract with Korea Hydro & Nuclear Power's Central Research Institute, Thermocoax will manufacture and deliver 'several' ICI assemblies that will be demonstrated in the OPR1000 reactor in Korea.

The instrumentation, which is based on neutron detectors and thermocouples, offers an enhanced lifetime compared to existing technologies without compromising safety and reliability, Thermocoax says.

The ICI assemblies are expected to be delivered in 2015.
