The scope of work will include design verification, inspection plans, quality assurance, as well as vendor inspection during site construction, installation and commissioning.

Lloyd's Register described the contract as a "major milestone" and said that it underlines the company's aspiration to become a leading nuclear safety Technical Support Organisation (TSO).

"The signing of this contract also highlights our commitment to working with leading authorities and operators worldwide who are embarking on a new generation of nuclear power," said Lloyd's Register Energy's Nuclear Vice-President, Mamdouh El-Shanawany.

The Emirates Nuclear Energy Corporation (ENEC) is currently building two reactors, Barakah 1&2, in the UAE which are expected to enter commercial operation in 2017 and 2018, and its plans two more at the same site to start up prior to 2020.
