Limerick orders dry storage casks

Transnuclear, Inc., an AREVA company has won a contract to supply eight NUHOMS 61BTH dry shielded canisters (DSC) for the storage of used nuclear fuel to Exelon's Limerick nuclear power plant.

The canisters, which can safety store up to 61 used fuel assemblies from a boiling water reactor, are scheduled for delivery in 2014 (four units) and 2015 (four units). They can be stored in NUHOMS® horizontal storage modules or the vertical TN-NOVA overpack, according to the vendor.

AREVA said that the canisters will be the first be manufactured at Transnuclear's newly acquired North Carolina-based fabricator, Columbiana Hi Tech, LLC (CHT).
