Kozloduy inspections demand

Bulgaria will not comply with the EuropeanUnion's request to close Kozloduy 3 and 4 in 2006 unless the EU sends inspectors to the plant in 2003, according to Bulgaria's EU integration minister Meglena Kuneva. The Bulgarian government hopes that new inspections will prompt the EU to agree that the units can operate safely until 2010-2012. A previous inspection by the IAEA found that the reactors were operating well within safety parameters (see story links below).
