BNFL Environmental Services and Electricité de France (EdF) have won a contract for the decommissioning of units 1 and 2, which closed at the end of 2002. The E7.7 million contract for project management and engineering services was awarded by the Kozloduy plant under the Kozloduy International Decommissioning Support Fund managed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development.

BNFL Environmental Services, EdF and local Bulgarian subcontractor Enpro were shortlisted for the project management unit (PMU) contract from a tender list of 14 interested parties. The PMU is responsible for writing technical specifications of the projects, procurement and evaluation of goods and services. The project will be implemented and financed over the next three years.
