Kewaunee gets 20-year life extension

The Nuclear Regulatory Commission has renewed the operating license for the Kewaunee Power Station, located in Kewaunee County, Wis., for an additional 20 years. The renewed license for the nuclear power plant will now expire on Dec. 21, 2033.

The decision to renew the license comes after thorough safety and environmental reviews of the application submitted by the plant’s operator, Dominion Energy Kewaunee, Inc., by letter dated Aug. 12, 2008. Kewaunee Power Station is a 580MWe pressurized-water reactor located 27 miles east-southeast of Green Bay, Wis.
