K2R4 update

30 March 2001

President Leonid Kuchma said that Ukraine should complete construction of two reactors, Khmelnitski 2 and Rovno 4, even without sufficient western aid (see NEI, January 2001, p6). His announcement follows further conditions imposed by the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD), which is helping to finance the project. The EBRD said that the latest delay on the decision for the loans has arisen because the International Monetary Fund had yet to decide on new aid to Ukraine.
