Joint study of new fuel

Russia's Research Institute for Atomic Reactors (RIAR) in Dimitrovgrad, Ulyanovsk Region, and Japan's Nuclear Fuel Development Institute (JNC) have signed an agreement on joint studies in the area of vibration compacted MOX-fuel.

Under the agreement, a new production line is to be built in RIAR for the production of granulated MOX fuel and fuel rods using weapons grade plutonium. This new fuel will eventually be used in the BN-600 reactor at Beloyarsk NPP.
