Iter work agency established

2 April 2007

The European Union (EU) Council of Ministers has formally established the EU agency that will handle the EU’s participation in the ITER international fusion project.

Called the European Domestic Agency, it will be based in Barcelona, Spain, has a current budget of €9.6 billion, and has been authorised to work for 35 years. The agency will also manage wider EU fusion cooperation with Japan, under the recent ‘broader approach’ deal between Brussels and Tokyo.
