Iter project leader takes up post

Kaname Ikeda, project leader of the Iter enterprise and nominee for the post of director general took up his position in Cadarache, France on 13 March.

In a letter to all project staff and contributors he expressed how eagerly he had awaited this moment, and how he looked forward to the challenges ahead, and to making the project a great success at the technical, international, intellectual and cultural level. "It is a huge opportunity, and one we should not miss." he wrote.

In the same letter Ikeda thanked Yasao Shimomura for his achievements as interim project leader, and asked him to stay on as his senior advisor until the end of September 2006.
