India’s Reliance Infra wins Kudankulam contract

India’s Reliance Infra on 9 April won an EPC contract worth INR10.81bn ($165.5m) from Nuclear Power Corporation of India (NPCIL) related to the construction of units 3 and 4 of the Kudankulam NPP in Tamil Nadu. 

Under the contract, Reliance Infrastructure will be responsible for providing the common services system, structure & components (SSC) package and allied civil works for the units. The company will offer design, engineering, supply, erection, testing and commissioning of SSC package and allied civil works.

Reliance Infrastructure said that the project is scheduled to be commissioned in 56 months and the contract was won in competition with other firms including BHEL, L&T, BGR and Tata Projects. The Kudankulam, being built jointly with Russian state nuclear corporation Rosatom, will feature six VVER-1000 reactor units. Units 1 and 2 began commercial operation in 2013 and 2016. In March 2015, India had signed an agreement worth INR330bn ($5.2bn) with Russia to develop the third and fourth units.
