India and EU formalise nuclear co-operation agreement

India and the European Union (EU) formalised the long-negotiated civil nuclear agreement on research and development cooperation on the use of nuclear energy at the 15th India-EU Summit, Hindu Businessline reported on 15 July. Ministry of External Affairs Secretary Vikas Swarup explained that the agreement on R&D cooperation in peaceful uses of nuclear energy will enable cooperation between India’s Department of Atomic Energy and European Atomic Energy Community (Euratom). Cooperation will be forged on issues such as civil application of nuclear energy in areas such as agriculture, health care and industry, radioactive waste management, fusion, safety and security.
