Iberdrola wins Angra maintenance contract

Iberdrola Ingenieria y Construccion has won a EUR4 million contract to raise the safety of unit I of the Angra nuclear power plant in Brazil. The work consists of preventive maintenance on the nozzles, which will be performed together with specialist firm Welding Services Inc

Iberdrola Ingenieria turned out to be the winning bidder for this project after having participated in an international selection process called by Eletrobras Termonuclear S.A. It beat some big players including Areva. Recent work performed by Iberdrola Engineering at Angra has included a $79 steam generators replacement project at unit 1 of this power plant, completed in 2009.

Angra located in the State of Río de Janeiro has a capacity of 657MW.
