HLW feasibility reports submitted

9 January 2003

The federal safety authorities will now evaluate the reports with a view to allowing the Federal Council to decide in around 2006 on further measures for the management of these wastes. Identification of a site remains the subject of a later general licence procedure.

The documentation is based on the Opalinus Clay project, which showed that the Opalinus Clay in the Zürcher Weinland region is suitable as a host rock for a deep disposal facility for HLW.
