Hertel wins Calder Hall decommissioning contract

27 March 2013

Work, starting in April 2013, involves the removal of the top ducts, the high and low pressure drums, external pipe works and all structural steelwork from Calder Hall's heat exchangers. The project is expected to be completed in three and a half years, Hertel said.

Hertel has previously been responsible for removal of the heat exchanges from Calder Hall, which closed in 2003 after almost 47 years of operation.

In the current project, it will be responsible for project management, crane lifting proposals, engineering design, temporary works design, fabrication, provision of access systems as well as the removal of all steelwork, ductwork and pipework.

Hertel is working as part of Astrel Alliance under the Decommissioning, Demolition and Waste Stream framework.
