GNF wins Nine Mile Point fuel contract

7 June 2011

Global Nuclear Fuel-Americas has won a $300 million dollar contract to supply fuel and associated engineering reload licensing services for Constellation Energy Nuclear Group’s, Nine Mile Point Nuclear Station in central New York.

Fuel for reloads at units 1 and 2 will be produced and assembled at GNF’s Wilmington, N.C. fuel fabrication plant. The fuel assemblies will be equipped with Defender filter technology, which protects the fuel by capturing debris that may exist in a reactor core, thus helping to prevent damage to fuel rods.

Nine Mile Point is a two-unit, GE-designed boiling water reactor (BWR) station with a total capacity of 1750 MWe.
