Generator upgrades for Bruce Power

21 November 2017

Canada’s Bruce Power and Motion Electric Motor Services have signed two agreements valued at more than CAD17m ($13m) to support life extension upgrades at Bruce A and Bruce B.

Motion Electric Motor Services will perform upgrades on Bruce Power’s standby electric generators, which power equipment for cooling the reactors during a major power outage, as well as various electric motors.

Upgrades to the generators will involve mechanical refurbishment as well as improvements to the gearboxes. The current conditions of the electric motors will also be evaluated, and mechanical and electrical reconditioning will be made based on the results.

Patrick Lambert, business manager at Motion Electric Motor Services, said: “Through this partnership, Motion Electric Motor Services plans to invest nearly CAD1.4m over the next 18 months to hire skilled labour and modernise its workshops.”
