GE forges alliance with FirstEnergy

13 July 2005

Power giant GE Energy's nuclear business has formed a strategic alliance with FirstEnergy Nuclear Operating Company (Fenoc) of Akron, Ohio.

The six-year alliance will cover operational support at FirstEnergy's Perry and Davis-Besse nuclear stations, which are located along the northern shores of Lake Erie in Ohio.

The 1260MWe Perry plant is a boiling water reactor (BWR) and serves northern Ohio while the 877MWe Davis-Besse plant in Oak Harbor is a pressurised water reactor (PWR) and also serves northern Ohio.

GE's nuclear business was the nuclear steam supply system designer for Perry, and the original equipment manufacturer of the Perry and Davis-Besse turbine generators.
