France’s Framatome said on 11 May it has signed a new agreement with Vattenfall Nuclear Fuel for long-term nuclear fuel supply. Under this contract, awarded on 3 May, Framatome will continue to secure fuel deliveries of Atrium 11 boiling water reactor (BWR) fuel until 2034 to unit 3 of Vattenfall’s Forsmark NPP in Sweden. “Framatome is an ideal partner to supply nuclear fuel for Forsmark 3,” says Ove Nilsson, head of Vattenfall Nuclear Fuel. “After working with the company on previous fuel supply contracts, we are eager to extend our valuable relationship with Framatome, which will enable Vattenfall to move forward in developing a strategic supply chain within the industry.”

Forsmark’s three BWRs generate 20-25TWh of electricity annually, powering approximately one-sixth of Sweden’s total energy consumption. Forsmark 3 has been supplying electricity to Stockholm and neighbouring municipalities for almost 40 years.
