Fight for Kewaunee

1 February 1998

Wisconsin Public Service is disputing an analysis by the staff of the Wisconsin Public Service Commission which purports to show that it would be cheaper to repair the steam generators and eventually close the plant, than to replace the steam generators. However, the commission staff did not recommend a course of action.

Wisconsin Public Service wants to replace the steam generators by 2000 and operate the plant until its licence expires in 2013. If the units are repaired, the utility believes Kewaunee could operate reliably only through 2007.
