EU-US fusion

30 March 2001

The EU and the USA have settled differences over the future of nuclear fusion research, with the EU council of ministers accepting an agreement between the European Commission (acting for Euratom), and the USA: “For co-operation in peaceful uses of nuclear energy.” The deal includes a commitment to co-operate on nuclear energy research and development, with a clear indication that this work would include studies on “controlled thermonuclear fusion.”
