EU approves new Chernobyl payment

The European Union (EU) Council of Ministers has approved another payment from EU coffers for the Chernobyl Shelter Fund, funnelling €14.4 million via the European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) to counteract the effects of the world’s worst nuclear accident. The EU contributed €90.5 million 1999-2000 and a further €100 million 2001-2005.
