Energoatom tariffs reduced

3 October 2002

Ukraine's National Electricity Regulation Commission (NERC) has set a tariff for Energoatom at 6.5 kopecks per kWh as of 20 August.

The tariff includes surcharges per kWh of 0.21kopeck for completion of Zaporozhye, 0.21 kopeck for completion of the Tashlyk hydroelectric pumped storage plant, and 0.16 kopeck each for completion of Khmelnitsky and Rovno. The resolution also introduces a change in the mechanism for distributing wholesale electricity market operators' funds under which Energoatom will receive 100% payment for marketable commodities as of 28 August.

Meanwhile, the Ukrainian government has endorsed a comprehensive programme for upgrading and stepping up security at its nuclear power stations.

The programme, announced on 28 August, aims to implement International Atomic Energy Agency recommendations to increase the safety of VVER power stations, improving active physical safety barriers and reactor protection.

Annual plans will be drawn up for each reactor.
