Enel and Rosatom sign nuclear accord

3 April 2007

Italian firm Enel has signed a memorandum of intent with Russia's Rosatom on the development of the electricity sector and nuclear power generation in Russia, and in central and Eastern Europe.

The two intend to cooperate with the joint development of nuclear generation, joint investment, and reciprocal participation in nuclear assets and management of electricity systems, an Enel statement said.

Fulvio Conti, Enel chief executive, commented: “We are enthusiastic about the opportunity to collaborate with the Russian Nuclear Energy Agency in the nuclear power sector, which is becoming increasingly strategic. Our interest in the project is enhanced by the fact that Rosatom signed a memorandum of intent with a private company for the development of the nuclear sector in Russia, and in central and Eastern Europe.”
