29 April 1999

On 14 April, Tokyo Electric Power (TEPCO) company submitted an environmental impact report to MITI for an extension to the Fukushima Daiichi site. TEPCO plans to add two new 1350 MWe ABWRs. The same report was also submitted to the Fukushima Prefectural Government and to the local municipal governments. TEPCO indicated that they intend to proceed with the construction of these units as soon as all the procedures have been completed. The new units will bring the total capacity of the site to about 8776 MWe.
