EDF completes acquisition of SPE-Luminus

27 November 2009

The EDF Group and Centrica plc today finalised the agreement, first announced in May 2009, under the terms of which EDF acquires Centrica’s 51% stake in the Belgian electricity company SPE – Luminus and Centrica acquires 20% of Lake Acquisitions, the holding company which owns 100% of British Energy, as well as 20% of the EDF project company created especially for the construction of new nuclear energy plants in the UK.

Thanks to the acquisition of a majority interest in SPE, Belgium’s second largest electricity company, EDF will be perfectly positioned to increase competition on the Belgian market within the framework of a renewed partnership with the other SPE-Luminus shareholders. SPE will benefit from EDF’s know-how in fossil fuel and renewable energy generation and also from its European positioning within the areas of trading and natural gas supply.
