Dome installed at China’s first Hualong One reactor

31 May 2017

The dome has been installed on the containment building of unit 5 at China’s Fuqing NPP in Fujian province, southeastern China, Xinhua news agency reported on 25 May. Fuqing 5 is the first of two demonstration Generation III Hualong One units being built at the site. It is expected to begin commercial operation in 2019 or 2020. China National Nuclear Corporation (CNNC) said the dome was installed 15 days ahead of schedule. Hualong One (HPR1000) is an indigenous 1,100MWe, three-loop pressurised water reactor. It incorporates elements of CNNC’s ACP1000 and China General Nuclear’s (CGN’s) ACPR1000+ reactor designs. Two Hualong One units are also under construction at CGN’s Fangchenggang NPP in Guangxi province. These are also expected to start up in 2019 and 2020.
