Diablo Canyon steam turbine project delayed

18 January 2006

A steam generator replacement project at Diablo Canyon has been delayed after plans for temporary buildings to develop the project were denied approval by the county planning commission in a spilt decision.

The $700 million project calls for the replacement of eight steam generators that will allow the plant to operate beyond the current estimate of 2014. Diablo Canyon is licensed to run until 2025.

Plant owners Pacific Gas and Electric are expected to appeal.
