Design completed for China’s first SMR

The first pilot project to use China National Nuclear Corporation's ACP100 multi-purpose small modular reactor design has completed its preliminary design stage and is qualified for construction in Hainan province, the China Daily reported on 3 May. Relevant permits for a feasibility study and site characterisation work are expected to be issued by the end of June. Construction of the first ACP100 - also referred to as the Linglong One - is expected to begin by year-end in the Changjiang Li autonomous county of Hainan. All research, development and design procedures have been completed, and work will proceed on the feasibility study, soil and water conservation research, environmental impact assessment, construction land geological disaster risk assessment and seismic safety assessment following the issuing of the relevant permits by the end of June.
