Day & Zimmermann wins nuclear maintenance contract

Day & Zimmermann has been awarded a six-year contract to provide fleet maintenance and modifications services at the Vogtle, Hatch and Farley reactors operated by Southern Company.

The family-owned company has also won a three-year staff augmentation contract to provide Southern Nuclear with fleet-wide radiation protection and decontamination services.

The value of the contracts was not disclosed, but Day & Zimmermann said mobilisation work is underway for a July start date,

"This contract further demonstrates the confidence that the industry has in our ability to provide value through our maintenance services," said Michael P. McMahon, president of Day & Zimmermann ECM.

"We share Southern Nuclear's passionate commitment to the growth and excellence of nuclear power."

Southern Nuclear operates six units for Alabama Power and Georgia Power, two each at the Farley nuclear plant in Alabama; the Hatch nuclear plant in Georgia; and the Vogtle electric generating plant in Georgia. Southern Nuclear is also the licensee of two new AP1000 units under construction at plant Vogtle.
