Sargent & Lundy has been chosen to act as consultant on the development of the new advanced Pebble Bed Modular Reactor (PBMR). Investors in the PBMR include South African utility Eskom, British Nuclear Fuels (BNFL), the Industrial Development Corporation of South Africa (IDC) and US-based Exelon.
Sargent & Lundy will provide PBMR with primary consulting services for engineering, project controls, procurement and project management. The company has also been selected to evaluate US nuclear plant licensing criteria for PBMR technology. It will provide services in South Africa and the USA.
