7 January 2013

Construction of the project at Shidao Bay in the coastal city of Rongcheng, east China's Shandong Province, began in December, Xinhua learned from Huaneng Shandong Shidao Bay Nuclear Power Co., Ltd. (HSNPC), the builder and operator of the plant.

Originally scheduled to be launched in 2011, the construction of the project was put on hold after the Fukushima accident of March 2011. The Shidao Bay project has now undergone thorough site checks in accident prevention and emergency management, and has passed government safety inspections, according to a statement from HSNPC, the reports said.

HTR-PM, which was independently developed by China's Tsinghua University is expected to start generating power by the end of 2017.
