24 June 2021

The concreting of the cylindrical part of the inner containment of the reactor building at unit 2 at the Rooppur NPP, being constructed in the People's Republic of Bangladesh, has been completed (general contractor, Atomstroyexport (part of the Engineering Division of Rosatom) said on 22 June. During 27 hours of continuous concreting, the specialists of Trest RossSEM laid 976 cubic metres of self-compacting concrete mix. During the concreting process, four concrete placing booms were used to maintain fluidity and reduce defects.

“This work was completed ahead of schedule. During the construction of the fourth tier, many years of experience in concreting containment shells were used, which made it possible to complete the work in less than three months,” said Alexei Deriy, Vice President - Director of the Rooppur NPP Construction Project.

The concreting of the fourth tier prepares the way for important fork on several fronts at Rooppur 2, including installation of a polar crane and the erection of the fifth tier up to more than 44 metres. The inner containment is one of the main elements of the NPP reactor safety system, preventing the release of radioactive substances into the environment.
