Cogema to help launch Rokkashomura

30 July 2001

Cogema has signed an agreement with Japan Nuclear Fuel to provide technical assistance to ensure the successful launch of the Rokkashomura reprocessing plant. The plant, which is scheduled to begin operating in July 2005, will have a treatment capacity of 800tU per year. A number of Japnese engineers will be trained in France, with Cogema also set to carry out training in Japan.

Meanwhile Cogema has signed a contract modification with Japan’s Tohoku Electric to lower supply costs for reactor fuel. The new terms were agreed as a result of the weak market demand for enriched uranium.
