Chubu restarts Hamaoka 5

Japan's Chubu Electric Power Co. has restarted the Hamaoka 5 1200MW ABWR nuclear power plant after a 14-month outage.

The utility was due to restart the reactor on 25 January. it received restart approval from local governments on 15 January.

In addition to inspections, the utility has replaced the low-pressure turbine, which was damaged in an unrelated event in 2004.

Hamaoka 5 was shut down following the 6.4 magnitude Suruga Bay earthquake of 11 August 2009.
