11 October 2019

Heysham 2UK-based Chesterfield Special Cylinders (CSC) has been awarded a contract to supply nitrogen storage solutions to EDF Energy's nuclear power plants at Heysham, Torness and Hartlepool by mid-2020.

This contract, worth more than £3 million, covers the design and supply of ultra large high pressure cylinders as nitrogen storage packages. The packages will be manufactured at the CSC facility in Sheffield and have a  modular, seismically-qualified design to allow ease of installation at EDF Energy's sites, CSC said.

Jake Martin, commercial manager at CSC, said: “This is a highly prestigious win for Chesterfield that follows a period of successful collaboration with the EDF Energy team. The turn-key solution incorporates an innovative modular design for the cylinder assemblies and has been optimised for through-life integrity management and recertification.”

CSC also noted that the contract represents the company's largest order outside of the defence sector. CSC is part of the Pressure Technologies Group, which provides precision engineering products and services to global markets.
