Centrus Energy and the US Department of Energy's Oak Ridge National Laboratory (ORNL) will continue to work together to advance US AC100 gas centrifuge enrichment technology, under a new $16 million contract.

Centrus has been working under contract with ORNL since 2014. The latest agreement with UT-Battelle, the operator of ORNL, runs until 30 September 2018. Payments will be made upon completion of certain milestones, Centrus said.

The aim of the project is to "continue improving the technology to further reduce costs and increase efficiency," of the AC100 machines, according to Daniel Poneman, Centrus president and chief executive officer.
