Canadian government to split up AECL

1 June 2009

The Canadian government is planning to restructure AECL in preparation to sell it off, according to Agence France-Presse.

An 18-month review concluded that the govenrment-owned corporation should be split up into its reactor business and its research division, the AFP report said.

Candu supply chain group OCI applauded the move. "In the increasingly competitive international marketplace it is important to have a clear focus. A stronger AECL, positioned to compete internationally, will have a powerful impact on Canada's economy and the thousands of workers who make up Canada's nuclear supply chain," it said.
