Borssele upgrade plans to boost turbine efficiency

9 February 2005

Dutch utility EPZ has announced plans to upgrade the steam turbine and generator set at its Borssele facility. The moves are expected to add at least 30 MW of additional capacity to the plant’s output. The retrofit will be performed by Siemens Holland, which will supply new equipment worth about euro 43 million for the original turbine, making it more efficient. The generator stator will also be replaced when the upgrade takes place during the 450 MW PWR's annual outage next year. The contract was awarded after a European call for tenders at the end of 2004. Siemens supplied the original Borssele reactor and turbine-generator set.
