BNG renews Japanese reprocessing technology contract

25 May 2006

British Nuclear Group’s specialist contracting business, Project Services, has signed an agreement to continue its consultancy support to Japanese nuclear fuel company JNFL at the Rokkasho-mura reprocessing plant in Japan.

The contract supports the technology transfer for Reduced Pressure Evaporation processes used for managing highly active and medium active liquid waste streams.

The deal will see Project Services providing expertise up to the start of commercial operations.

The contract is supported by a licensing agreement with the UK’s Nuclear Decomissioning Authority (NDA) that ensures Project Services retains rights to BNFL’s Reduced Pressure Evaporation techniques.

Earlier contract phases were managed by British Nuclear Group Sellafield and BNFL.
