BE to restart reactors

British Energy has received approval from the UK’s receives permission from Nuclear Installations Inspectorate (NII) to restart both reactor 4 at Hunterston B and reactor 4 at Hinkley Point B nuclear power stations.

The four units had been shutdown to allow for inspection, repair and the preparation of safety cases related to boiler tube cracking issues after extensive cracking in boiler tubes was discovered.

The reactors will be restarted over the next few weeks but are to run at 70% of capacity.
