Australian cash injection

Australia has contributed Aus$7 billion ($4.9 billion) to the G8 group of industrialised nations' Global Partnership Project meant to combat proliferation of weapons of mass destruction.

The money will go to a Russian and Japanese joint effort begun in 1993 to recycle materials from the 30 former Soviet nuclear submarines based in Russia's far east.
